Who’s winning, old and experienced, or young and ambitious?
Starting a business at a young age has many challenges, one of them is that people won’t want to do business with you because you’re young and fresh to the industry, and not as experienced as the old dogs.
In reality we – the young entrepreneurs – have a tool that most of the old players have, and that is ambition.
Ambition goes a very long way, and you can accomplish with ambition way more than you can accomplish with experience. The older generation may know history better, but we – the young generation – know the current better.
In the past week alone we had 2 scenarios where clients called us up, that they are looking to switch their insurance over to Evergreen because their current broker is getting old and can’t service them anymore.
The first one happened to one of my salesman; one of his prospects called him up and told him that her broker is 90 years old, and she simply can’t service her needs anymore.
The other one happened to Sol this morning; this is an email he got today from a prospect:
We do own more than 48 properties here in the USA, and we have been having fun with the broker we have had for 20 odd years. He is getting old & rates are all over the place.
It will be great to have access to you for quotes.
Thanks in advance
This is no news to us. We already have active clients that switched over because their brokers were getting old. One was a NY broker that got old and sick and couldn’t service his customers anymore. (We even called him up and offered to buy his business, but he refused. So now we are getting his clients without paying for it.)
The other one was a Chicago broker. He used to have a company of 5 employees. As he is getting older, he started spending more time on the golf course in Florida, and he downgraded his office to his cell phone. One of his clients was having a closing and couldn’t get a hold of his broker, so he contacted Evergreen and you know the rest of the story.
There is one more advantage that young entrepreneurs have over the older ones, everything is moving over to new technology, and they just can’t keep up with it.
Stay ambitious, work hard and make it big!
