After re-reading an article I posted a week ago: The Number One Rule In Sales and Marketing – “Know Your Destination” I reminded myself the following story which I think is worth sharing.
Anybody that has a bit of knowledge in online marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) knows, in order for your website to rank high on search engines (Google, Yahoo Etc.) you need to have other websites linking to your website.
Accomplishing this is a very big challenge, and easier said than done.
There was once a guy that came up with a very creative way to accomplish this. He said; I know my destination, I wanna rank high on search engines, in order to rank high I need links to my website. And he picked a very dangerous road that eventually got him killed.
This guy was selling eye glasses online, but instead of selling real glasses, he sold fake ones. When his customers called him up to complain, guess what he did; he threatened to KILL them.
His idea was, that all of his angry customers will swamp the Internet with BAD reviews on his website, but that didn’t bother him, because at the end of the game his site will get a ton of back links and rank high on all the search engines.
While I’m not sure if that worked or not at the end of the game, one thing I know for sure; that guy ended up in prison.
Yes, once you know your destination, there are multiple way to get there. But do yourself a favor, don’t choose the roads that will get you killed.
